A truly sensual experience, an explosion of color and pure vitality attracts anyone who wants to escape the Berlin winter for a while: they can immerse themselves in the world of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo from November 10, 2023, until January 31, 2024. Viva Frida Kahlo – Immersive Experience, the 360-degree experience, transports visitors to Mexico, to Casa Azul in Coyoacán. It was in this very house that a young Frida Kahlo, confined to her bed following a severe accident, began her journey into painting.

The exhibition Viva Frida Kahlo – Immersive Experience showcases the era of the 1920s to 1940s and the colorful paintings and self-portraits as a testament to a life filled with grace, pain, and an indomitable will to live. Visitors to the exhibition move freely through the space, where elaborate all-around projections create exotic color worlds brimming with emotion, presenting Frida Kahlo’s works in a manner never seen before.

Frida Kahlo’s paintings, which in their original form may appear modest in size, are brought to life and projected onto walls extending up to 18 meters in length and 5.5 meters in height, as well as onto the floor of the exhibition hall. To enhance the all-encompassing sensory experience, a narrator, assuming the role of the artist, guides visitors through the emotional landscape of the emancipated painter using original quotations. A specially composed soundtrack augments the immersive staging, deepening the auditory experience of the exhibit.

The Viva Frida Kahlo – Immersive Experience transports visitors into Kahlo’s universe. Through cutting-edge technology, her paintings are brought to life in a visual spectacle, allowing for an engagement with her art in a manner that is both deeply intimate and expansively immersive. The exhibition aims to create a dialogue between Kahlo’s iconic works and the viewers, fostering a sense of connection that transcends time and space. Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter known for her bold and vividly colored self-portraits, explored themes of identity, class and race in Mexican society through her deeply personal and symbolic work. Her art transcends mere aesthetic appeal, delving into the realms of autobiographical storytelling and poignant social commentary. Kahlo’s works are celebrated not only for their technical prowess but also for their profound emotional depth and unflinching exploration of personal and collective identity.
