Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday thanked the United States for its efforts to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon, following separate phone calls with President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to an official statement.
Aoun received a call from Rubio earlier in the day, during which he expressed appreciation for Washington’s ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah after weeks of fighting.
In a statement published by the Lebanese presidency on X, Aoun also spoke with Trump and renewed his thanks for U.S. mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and ensuring long-term stability in Lebanon.
During the call, Aoun urged continued U.S. engagement to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible and pave the way for a broader peace process in the region.
For his part, Trump reaffirmed his support for Aoun, stressing his commitment to responding to Lebanon’s request to secure a ceasefire at the earliest opportunity.
The Lebanese presidency did not mention any contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite earlier statements by Trump indicating that Israeli and Lebanese leaders could speak on Thursday.
