Cyprus declared Wednesday the closure of its airspace above Larnaca International Airport after a suspicious object was detected coming from Lebanon.
The Cypriot government’s spokesperson said that “a suspicious object” was spotted in the airspace near Lebanon and that authorities had “taken the appropriate measures,” without providing further details on the nature of the object.
Following the incident, Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji held a phone call with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Koumbos, during which he strongly condemned the attacks on the island.
Rajji affirmed Lebanon’s solidarity with Cyprus in the face of what he described as hostile acts, stressing his country’s commitment to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
