Paris will host a conference in February in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), following a quadripartite meeting held in the French capital on Thursday, the French Foreign Ministry confirmed to This is Beirut. The venue of the conference has yet to be announced.
The meeting brought together LAF Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, French officials, and special envoys from Saudi Arabia and the United States. According to the French Foreign Ministry, discussions focused on ways to demonstrate tangible progress in the disarmament of Hezbollah.
The ministry said the participants agreed during the talks to organize the upcoming conference, aimed at strengthening and supporting the Lebanese army.
A spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry stated that France’s objective in Lebanon is the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, which includes the disarmament of Hezbollah. He added that if there is a need to delay the deadline for Hezbollah’s disarmament, the issue would be discussed with the parties to the agreement.
On the sidelines of the meeting, General Haykal also held talks with his French counterpart, General Fabian Mandon. Both commanders reaffirmed their shared commitment to Lebanon’s stability, lasting peace and sovereignty. The French army commander said he discussed with General Haykal the security challenges facing Lebanon and the region, stressing that France stands by the Lebanese army to preserve stability and respect Lebanon’s sovereignty.
