The Ministry of Youth and Sports, in partnership with the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL), held a press conference at the center to launch the humanitarian ByeBike initiative.

Led by Lebanese athletes Ralph Khoury and Carla Jabbour, the initiative is a remarkable two-month cycling journey from Paris to Beirut.

The ride begins on September 21, coinciding with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and concludes on November 22, Lebanon’s Independence Day.

Covering approximately 5,000 kilometers, the journey aims to raise both awareness and crucial funds for CCCL, which provides free care to children battling cancer. Donations will be collected through a dedicated online platform to support the center’s programs.

Minister of Youth and Sports Nora Bayrakdarian praised the initiative, saying, “Sports are not only about competition, but also about life and solidarity. This journey proves that sports can serve as a tool for hope and life-saving causes.”

She also highlighted the courage of CCCL’s children and encouraged the public to join in supporting this cause, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility across ministries and society.

Minister of Public Health Rakan Nassereddine commended CCCL’s comprehensive care programs, noting their full coverage of medications, which has quadrupled in recent years, and the recent inclusion of bone marrow transplants. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for the initiative and the significance of raising funds to sustain the center’s vital work.

Minister of Tourism Laura al-Khazen Lahoud spoke of the initiative as “a noble story of love, determination and solidarity,” highlighting Lebanon’s spirit of generosity and the importance of inspiring young people to contribute to their communities. Minister of Information Paul Morcos emphasized the role of the media in raising awareness and following the journey from Paris to Beirut.

CCCL Chairman Joseph Assi expressed gratitude to the ministers and athletes, noting that the journey carries a message of resilience and hope while ensuring that children fighting cancer receive the care they need, free of charge.

Ralph Khoury, marking the second edition of ByeBike, reflected on the journey’s deeper meaning: “This 5,000-kilometer ride is more than a challenge, it is a symbol of solidarity and hope. We look forward to arriving in Beirut and celebrating the courage and recovery of the children we ride for.”
