Iran Says New Proposal to Washington Includes Ending Lebanon War

Iran said Tuesday that its latest proposal to the United States includes demands to end hostilities across the region, including in Lebanon, alongside sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade imposed on Tehran.

In comments carried by Iran’s official IRNA news agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran’s proposal also calls for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from areas near Iran and reparations for destruction caused during the U.S.-Israeli war.

According to Gharibabadi, Iran’s proposal seeks “ending hostilities on all fronts including Lebanon.” The demand comes as clashes between Israel and Hezbollah continue despite repeated ceasefire extensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider regional escalation.

Gharibabadi said Iran is also demanding the lifting of U.S. sanctions, access to frozen Iranian funds abroad, and an end to the American maritime blockade targeting Iranian ports. According to Reuters, Tehran’s proposal further includes demands for compensation over war-related destruction and the withdrawal of U.S. military forces from areas close to Iran.

The terms appear largely unchanged from Tehran’s previous proposal, which U.S. President Donald Trump rejected last week, calling it “garbage.”

Trump Signals Possible Opening

Despite the deadlock, Trump said Monday that he had paused a planned resumption of attacks on Iran after receiving a revised proposal from Tehran, adding there was now a “very good chance” of reaching an agreement over Iran’s nuclear program.

The diplomatic push comes amid mounting international pressure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments that has remained heavily disrupted since the outbreak of the war.

Although neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly confirmed concessions, Iranian officials suggested this week that the United States may be softening some of its demands.

The conflict, which erupted after U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran in late February, has reshaped the region despite a ceasefire formally taking effect in early April.

While the truce between Washington and Tehran has largely held, tensions continue across multiple fronts, including maritime attacks in the Gulf and drone launches targeting Gulf states from Iraq by Iran-linked groups.

Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have repeatedly said the war aimed to weaken Iran’s regional influence, dismantle its nuclear and missile programs and curb support for allied armed groups across the Middle East.
