Defense Minister Michel Menassa reaffirmed that the government has taken a clear strategic decision: to unify all weapons under state authority. He said the army has been tasked with drafting an operational plan to implement the disarmament before the end of the month.

In an interview with Kuwait’s Al-Jarida, Menassa commented on recent remarks by Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem, who reiterated the group’s attachment to its arsenal and warned of a “severe confrontation.” “We are not afraid… There cannot be two armed forces on the same territory under Lebanese sovereignty,” the minister stressed.

Kuwaiti Support to Strengthen the Army

Menassa also highlighted the “excellent” outcome of President Aoun’s visit to Kuwait last May, describing it as a new page in bilateral cooperation. He noted that military talks with Kuwait are nearing completion, with the State of Kuwait expected to soon provide the Lebanese army with necessary equipment and supplies.

Unification Mission Under Government Oversight

Regarding Hezbollah’s disarmament, the minister reiterated that the political decision to centralize military power under the state will be implemented through the army’s plan, which will be presented to the government for approval. He said this ensures that military actions remain aligned with official political decisions.

Finally, Menassa praised the Lebanese community in Kuwait for its continued support. “I am proud of this diaspora that helps and will continue to help our army,” he said.
