Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny announced the opening of bids for the public tender to operate and invest in René Mouawad Airport in a move aimed at reviving Lebanon’s second civilian airport after years of stagnation.
The contract was awarded to Sky Lounge Services following a tender process conducted under the Public Procurement Law. The ministry stated that the procedures were designed to ensure transparency, fair competition, and the protection of state interests while securing the best operational and investment conditions.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the airport project has been a priority for Minister Rasamny since he assumed office, with direct and continuous oversight given to advancing the long-delayed initiative.
The project is also expected to stimulate economic activity in northern Lebanon, particularly in Akkar, through increased tourism, trade, and logistics operations, while creating new direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The ministry said the tender reflects the state’s commitment to implementing major infrastructure projects in line with legal standards and principles of good governance, emphasizing efforts to restore public confidence in Lebanese institutions and their ability to execute strategic national projects.
The statement also thanked the administrative, technical, and official bodies involved in the process, in addition to residents of Akkar and northern Lebanon, describing the airport initiative as a key development project that could reinforce Lebanon’s role as a regional hub for transportation and services.
