Kataeb Party Chief Sami Gemayel on Thursday condemned recent remarks targeting Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai, describing them as “unacceptable.”

In his remarks after a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Gemayel warned that such rhetoric is “counterproductive to efforts for national consensus.”

In parallel, he reaffirmed his commitment to the authority of the state, the cabinet, the presidential oath, and the ceasefire agreement, which he said “affirm the building of the state, the rule of law, and equality.”

Gemayel said his talks with Berri followed similar meetings with President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, aimed at consulting on solutions to “rebuild the state.”

He stressed that the foremost priority is to move Lebanon from a state of political vacuum to full sovereignty, a process that requires bringing all weapons under the authority of the state.

Emphasizing inclusivity, Gemayel rejected any “marginalization of the Shia community,” calling it a “red line,” and stressed that Lebanon’s future must be based on equality, law, and partnership.

The criticism of Patriarch Bechara Rai followed his firm stance on the disarmament of Hezbollah, with the pro-Iranian group strongly objecting to his remarks, labeling them confrontational and demanding clarification.
