William Noun, brother of firefighter and August 4 victim Joe Noun, was assaulted on Monday following a gathering commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion. A video circulating on social media showed an armed individual confronting and attacking Noun shortly after the memorial.

The assailant was later arrested, along with Peter Bou Saab, brother of Joe Bou Saab, another port blast victim. Bou Saab’s arrest has since sparked calls for escalation and road closures unless he is released.

In an interview with Houna Loubnan, William Noun detailed the events, saying the altercation likely stemmed from heightened tensions ahead of Tuesday’s cabinet session.

“One of the young men pulled a weapon and was handed over to the authorities along with the weapon,” Noun said, adding that he and others had also asked security forces to detain other armed individuals present at the scene.

He noted that the Lebanese Army intervened to de-escalate the situation and that the group returned to the Fire Brigade headquarters. “We are operating within the law,” he stressed.

According to Noun, confusion arose when Peter Bou Saab arrived, and someone mistakenly believed he was armed. “This is false,” he said, confirming that Bou Saab is now under investigation. “We are waiting for him,” he added.
