Former Economy Minister Amin Salam and his brother, Karim Salam, were reportedly arrested on Wednesday at the request of Judge Jamal al-Hajjar, the chief public prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, according to Sky News Arabia.

The arrests come just days after Amin Salam was summoned by the judiciary for questioning.

The case stems from an investigation launched in November 2023, which resulted in a travel ban issued against Salam on March 20, 2025, also by Judge Hajjar. The order included the confiscation of his passport and was based on allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as minister.

In March 2025, the parliamentary Economy Committee filed formal complaints against the former minister, his brother, Karim, and several close associates, accusing them of wide-ranging abuses of power and misappropriation of public funds.

Karim Salam had previously been arrested in April 2025 on multiple charges, including embezzlement, extortion, bribery, money laundering and forgery – all tied to the same investigation.
