A significant cache of weapons destined for Lebanon has been seized by Syrian security forces in the border region of Al-Boukamal, east of Deir Al-Zor, according to local sources cited by Houna Loubnan. The arms reportedly originated from Iraq.

The seizure was the result of a large-scale security operation targeting an arms trafficking network operating in the area. Moustapha al-Ali, the regional security chief, said the operation is part of broader efforts to curb the flow of drugs and weapons into Syria through border crossings controlled by outlawed groups.

Authorities also uncovered tunnels allegedly used for smuggling narcotics between Syria and Iraq. Investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the full extent of the trafficking networks involved.

Ali emphasized that the ultimate goal is to disrupt smuggling operations that pose a threat to national and regional stability.
