Lebanon’s top officials marked Martyrs’ Day on Monday with solemn tributes to those who gave their lives for the country’s sovereignty, including members of the press who died in the line of duty.
President General Joseph Aoun led the commemorations with a statement honoring Lebanon’s martyrs. “Martyrs’ Day is not just a moment of mourning,” Aoun noted, “but a call to renew our commitment to the noble values they upheld and the sacred blood that was shed for this land.”
He paid particular tribute to journalists who were killed while covering conflict. “They faced shelling and airstrikes, armed only with pens and cameras,” he said. “They were Lebanon’s voice to the world in its darkest hours.”

- شهداء الصحافة اللبنانية هم رمز الإرادة اللبنانية الصلبة التي تأبى الخضوع والاستسلام، وتضحياتهم ستبقى منارةً…
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also marked the occasion, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “On this day, we bow to the souls who rose in defense of truth and justice. They were the voice of freedom and dignity against oppression and tyranny.”
