The Ministry of Public Health announced on Tuesday the immediate closure of a nursery in the Keserwan region following the tragic death of a four-month-old infant.

In an official statement, the ministry said that a delegation from its Mother and Child Department, along with the Keserwan District Medical Clinic, visited the nursery, shortly after being notified of the incident. The closure order was issued on the spot, under the direction of Minister of Public Health Dr. Rakan Nassereddine. The case has since been referred to judicial authorities to launch a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The ministry confirmed it is awaiting the outcomes of both medical and legal investigations before taking further steps.

A separate statement issued by the infant’s family provided chilling details of the incident. According to the parents, “the baby was transferred from the nursery to Our Lady of Lebanon Hospital at 8:50 PM, where she was received by emergency physician Dr. Ibrahim Jamil Awada. His report confirmed that the child arrived in a cyanotic state with no pulse. Despite 45 minutes of attempted resuscitation, she was declared dead at 9:38 PM.”

The parents said that “the cause of death was a respiratory arrest due to asphyxiation, caused by milk reflux that blocked the infant’s airway.” “This finding was corroborated by forensic pathologist Dr. Nader Habib Al-Hajj,” according to the parents. The family also noted that “no nurse was present at the nursery at the time of the incident.”
