The President of the Economic Organizations and former minister, Mohammad Choucair, has called for a reconsideration of the 1991 Treaty of Fraternity, Cooperation and Coordination signed between Lebanon and Syria. This appeal was made in two letters he addressed to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Choucair stated that this step has become essential with the fall of the Syrian regime and the restructuring of power in the country. He stressed the necessity of reviewing all bilateral agreements, including protocols, memorandums, programs, and contracts signed between the two countries. The revision should prioritize Lebanon's interests at all levels, particularly in the economic and commercial sectors, he added.

He argued that reassessing these agreements should take into account Lebanon’s current economic conditions and the challenges it faces, with a focus on improving national production and protecting Lebanese economic sectors.
