Samir Geagea, the leader of the Lebanese Forces Party, considered that “the time for justice has come, not only in Syria but also in Lebanon.” He pointed out that the Assad family’s Syrian administration had thwarted the development of a legitimate state in Lebanon.

Geagea used Sunday’s overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime as an opportunity to speak to his supporters as well as to the different segments of the Lebanese population. He honored “the martyrs whose sacrifices made this day possible.”

He specifically mentioned the victims of Assad regime assassinations, former president Bachir Gemayel, former National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dany Chamoun and several LF members who passed away.

He also brought up the subject of Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons, mentioning the 1992 disappearance of Boutros Khawand, a member of the Kataeb party's political committee.

Geagea also denounced “a certain number of Lebanese who were in the pay of the Assad regime” and those who believed that Assad was defending minorities, for whom “this day should be a day of shame and dishonor.”

He called on caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati “to assume his responsibilities” and asked Hezbollah members to turn over their weapons to the Lebanese army.

Finally, in preparation for the new future that awaits a “long-awaited new Lebanon,” Geagea asked the Lebanese to reevaluate the performance and acts of their representatives.
