Italy has reaffirmed its commitment to Lebanon with the launch of nine humanitarian emergency projects worth €5.4 million, aimed at addressing critical needs stemming from the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Embassy of Italy in Beirut explained that the initiatives, announced on 18 November, are financed by the Italian Cooperation and are part of a broader €28 million framework to reduce the impact of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah while strengthening Lebanese institutions. The projects will target a wide range of essential services, including water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), protection, food security, housing and basic care, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations.

“These new projects represent an immediate and concrete response to the growing needs of the people who have suffered the consequences of the conflict,” stated Fabrizio Marcelli, the Italian Ambassador to Lebanon. “Now more than ever, Italy stands by Lebanon and the Lebanese people.”

The projects will be implemented over four months by leading civil society organizations, including Oxfam, AVSI, CESVI, We World-GVC, and Terre des Hommes Italia, in collaboration with public institutions and local partners. Over 300,000 people across Lebanon are expected to benefit from these interventions.

Alessandra Piermattei, Head of the AICS office in Beirut, highlighted the importance of the initiatives, noting they will provide food aid, shelter access and institutional capacity-building, demonstrating Italy’s comprehensive approach to supporting Lebanon’s recovery.

In addition to its humanitarian assistance, Italy remains engaged in Lebanon’s development through its contributions to UNIFIL and support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, reinforcing its historic ties and unwavering solidarity with the Lebanese people.
