Ali Larijani, the senior adviser to the leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Ali Khamenei, is expected in Syria, on Thursday.
The announcement was made by the spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei.
Baghaei said that Ali Larijani, who is also a member of the Expediency Council, “will depart for Damascus at the head of an official delegation to meet and talk with senior Syrian officials, especially President Bashar Assad."
"The latest developments in the region and bilateral relations will be the main focus of Larijani's talks with the Syrian authorities," Baghaei added.
Even though he did not mention a visit to Beirut, the Lebanese al-Jadeed TV station said on Wednesday evening that Larijani is expected on Friday in Beirut, for talks with Lebanese officials about the ongoing war between Israel and the Hezbollah.
