Foundation Stone Laid for Karantina Government Hospital
The foundation stone for the new building of Beirut Governmental University Hospital in Karantina, which was badly damaged in the August 4, 2020, port explosion, was laid on Monday, kickstarting the project funded by Qatar.

Commenting on the occasion, Qatari Ambassador to Lebanon, Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, said that "Qatar, through its health and humanitarian aid, seeks to ensure a healthier world for all.”

Lebanon’s Caretaker Health Minister, Firas Abiad, clarified that “this hospital, which suffered from the August 4 explosion, now returns as a symbol of resilience,” adding, “We affirm today that we can rise from the rubble, and this hospital will be a pivotal part of the Ministry of Public Health’s strategy.”

“We are moving forward in establishing a strong health network that provides services to our community and acts as a strong pillar in facing health challenges.”

He also mentioned that several cooperative projects between public hospitals and university hospitals will soon be announced to expand the range of medical services, improve their quality, and open new treatment departments.

Abiad also thanked "the State of Qatar for its generous support to Lebanon," noting that this support is not the first of its kind, as "the Qatar Fund for Development has provided many medical aids to the Lebanese people."
