An explosion ripped through Haret Hreik, in the heart of Beirut’s southern suburb on Tuesday evening, caused by an Israeli drone attack that targeted a building housing Hezbollah’s Shura Council.
The targeted building is located in the vicinity of Bahman Hospital, which is run and operated by the Iranian-backed group.
According to initial information, a top Hezbollah official has been targeted. His fate remains unknown, according to Reuters.
The Times of Israel reported that the targeted Hezbollah commander is Fouad Shokr, a close military advisor to Hezbollah's chief Hassan Nasrallah, and head of the precision missile project, who is wanted by the United States.
Israeli army Arabic-speaking spokesperson Avichay Adraee said on X that the army carried out a precision attack targeting the commander responsible for the killing of children and a number of Israelis in Majdal Shams. No change, for the time being, in instructions on the internal front.
According to Israeli Channel 13, an Israeli drone fired three missiles.
The attack comes as part of Israel's response to the strike on Majdal Shams, in the Golan Heights annexed by Israel, which left 12 children and teenagers dead.
In this context, the Israeli media reported that the army had announced an increase in the state of alert.
