August 4: Victims’ families Call for Large-Scale Mobilization
Families of the victims of the Beirut Port blast called on “all Lebanese, without distinction, and expatriates present in Lebanon who consider the cause of August 4, 2020 to be a just cause to join them in the 4th commemoration of this tragic date to demand with one voice that justice be done for Beirut.”

They also warned that “Lebanon will no longer exist if justice is not done.”

“A legal massacre is being committed daily against Beirut,” they also denounced, calling on the public to join them at 4pm at Martyrs’ Square, Beirut Fire Brigade headquarters or Sassine Square.

In a press conference held on Tuesday at the Press Club, the victims’ families, led by William Noun, reiterated their denunciation of a political class “that refuses to be accountable” and wishes to “bury the Beirut port investigation.”

“If we are addressing the population today, it’s because we no longer want to address this corrupt political class,” Noun added.

They also stressed that “the role of the Lebanese did not stop on August 4, 2020, when they flocked in large numbers to clear the roads littered with blood and stones,” urging them to continue this “legitimate peaceful struggle so that the investigation can finally succeed.”

Demands

The first demand on August 4 is that "someone responsible" should pay and that justice should be done.

The second is to call on “Judge Jamal Hajjar to release the investigating judge, Tarek Bitar, and take charge of the case,” said William Noun, praising the judge, and calling him “a respectable man.”

“August 4, 2020 - August 4, 2024, four years already and our hearts continue to bleed,” concluded a relative of a victim.
