Bayram Suspends 280 Agencies That Place and Recruit Migrant Workers
The caretaker Minister of Labor, Moustapha Bayram, announced on Sunday the suspension of the activities of 280 labor agencies and migrant worker recruitment agencies that have not regularized their situation by providing, at the request of the ministry, documents proving that they are in compliance with legal and humanitarian requirements.

A further six-month period has been granted for them to comply with the conditions set by the ministry.

These agencies had already benefited from a six-month period, extended twice in an implicit manner, without regularizing their situation.

These measures aim to regulate the situation of foreign labor in Lebanon while guaranteeing respect for the rights of foreign workers and the application of laws, to comply with international and humanitarian standards. The decisions of the Minister of Labor were taken following work meetings between the ministry team and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Bayram also announced the rejection of formalities presented by cleaning and handling companies for files of more than three workers. This measure was taken due to suspicions of human trafficking and attempts to flood the Lebanese market with foreign labor in a disorganized manner.

The parties concerned are invited to visit the office of the Ministry of Labor to obtain detailed information on the conditions to be met.
