Christophe Deloire died on Saturday at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer. Director general of Reporters Without Borders since 2012, Deloire “transformed the association (...) into a global champion for the defense of journalism over twelve years,” the press freedom organization said in a statement.
Founding president of the Forum on Information and Democracy since 2018 and appointed delegate-general of the États généraux de l'information in 2023, Christophe Deloire was a tireless defender, on every continent, of the freedom, independence and pluralism of journalism, in a context of information chaos.
Before becoming head of RSF, Christophe Deloire headed the CFJ, a recognized journalism school, from 2008 to 2012. He also worked for Le Point from 1998 to 2007 in the society and politics departments as an investigative reporter. He had also previously worked for the Arte and TF1 television channels.
