Council of Ministers: Committee to Be Established to Negotiate with Damascus
The Cabinet has decided to form a ministerial committee to negotiate with the Syrian government to find a solution to the issue of Syrian migrants in Lebanon.

At the close of Tuesday's Cabinet meeting at the Grand Serail, caretaker Information Minister Abbas Halabi announced that Cabinet Vice-President Saade Chami would chair the committee. Members will be appointed at the next ministerial meeting.

Halabi emphasized that the issue of Syrian migrants "enjoys unanimous support among the Lebanese, as evidenced by the recommendations made by Parliament" at the May 15 parliamentary meeting.

He asserted that “European aid is unconditional” and in line with international aid.

In his speech at the opening of the Cabinet meeting, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati asserted that “Lebanon has presented a clear and precise action plan to deal with the issue of Syrian refugees”, at the Brussels conference held on Monday.

He also stressed that “an agreement has been reached with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on all the points raised by Lebanon, including the handover of all data in possession of the UNHCR to General Security”.
