The Kataeb politburo has responded to comments made on Monday by Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, accusing the party of being strife-mongers.
“It is regrettable that Nasrallah mocked a large number of Lebanese and the Lebanese resistance who have defended Lebanon against occupying armies and organizations,” reads a statement issued by MP Samy Gemayel's party on Tuesday.
“Nasrallah is unhappy with the Kataeb’s stances and all those who stand in the face of his project which brought nothing but tragedies to the Lebanese,” the statement said, adding that “it is Hezbollah's adventures that dragged the country into a war in which it had nothing to do with.”
The Kataeb also deplored Nasrallah’s comments which they said, “only served to accentuate dissension among the Lebanese.”
In his speech on Monday, Nasrallah openly attacked the Lebanese Forces and the Kataeb, accusing them of seeking to “provoke a civil war” following the kidnapping and the murder of LF coordinator in Jbeil district, Pascal Sleiman.
The Kataeb party also reiterated its call on the political, security and judicial authorities to disclose to the public opinion the details of Pascal Sleiman's murder, in order to dispel the ambiguity surrounding the case.
