Davis Cup: Lebanon Faces Japan in Intense Tennis Showdown

Lebanon will take on Japan as of Friday as part of the Davis Cup confrontations between the two nations.

The matches will start at 11 AM (Beirut time) on the first court of the Smash Sporting Club in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The court has a clay surface.

The winner of this crucial confrontation will qualify for World Group I, while the loser will be relegated to World Group II. The draw for the matches took place on Thursday, in the presence of International Tennis Federation Referee Maria Cristina Barbarano (of Italian nationality) and members of the Lebanese delegation, which includes Johnny Abdallah (President), national coach Fadi Youssef, physiotherapist Lara Moawad, event organizer Louis Baz and players Benjamin Hassan, Hadi Habib, Hassan Ibrahim and Fady Baidan. Also present were the members of the Japanese delegation.

Two matches will take place on Friday:


11:00 AM - Singles category: Lebanon's Hadi Habib (born August 21, 1998, ranked 301st in the world and second in the Lebanese team) against Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka (born September 27, 1995, ranked 61st in the world and first in his team). This will be followed by the second singles match between Lebanon's Benjamin Hassan (born February 4, 1995, ranked 149th in the world and first in his team) against Japan's Yosuke Watanuka (born April 12, 1998, ranked 102nd in the world and second in the Japanese team).

Saturday's match schedule:

10:00 AM - Doubles category: Lebanon's Hassan Ibrahim (born August 17, 1995, unranked) and his compatriot Fady Baidan (born January 1, 2006, ranked 1,589th in the world) against the Japanese pair Shintaro Mochizuki (born June 2, 2003, ranked 136th in the world) and Kaito Uesigi (born June 2, 1995, ranked 1,147th in the world). This will be followed by a singles match between Lebanon's Benjamin Hassan (ranked first in his team) and Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka (ranked first in his team). The fifth and final match will feature Lebanon's Hadi Habib (ranked second in his team) and Japan's Yosuke Watanuki (ranked second in his team).

It should be noted that the country that wins three of the five matches is considered the winner of the series and qualifies for World Group I. In this context, the President of the Lebanese Tennis Federation, Oliver Fayssal, joined the delegation on Thursday to follow the matches and offer moral support to the Lebanese players.
