MP Waddah Sadek declared on Wednesday that Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport is now under the total and unconditional control of the "Shiite duo," both in terms of corruption and security.
He said that the airport represents a massive source of income, but also serves as an entrance for smuggling weapons and drugs.
Sadek emphasized, in an interview on national radio Voice of Lebanon, that negligence and disregard for public facilities jeopardized citizens' lives and safety, ultimately leading to the explosion at the Port of Beirut.
Sadek put the responsibility of what is happening at the airport on Public Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat and General Prosecutor Ghassan Khoury, who disregarded a report on the matter which was submitted by 19 MPs three months ago without receiving any response.
He stated that the port explosion occurred due to the judiciary's negligence and indifference.
According to him, "corruption, theft, inefficiency and favoritism" are the reasons behind the current state of the airport, adding that "the message of piracy still appears on screens inside the airport employees' offices," and the reason is the "lack of efficiency and expertise."
On Sunday, the flight information screens at Beirut Rafic Hariri Airport were hacked, displaying a message challenging Hezbollah’s control over the airport and warning against dragging Lebanon into a war for which Hezbollah would bear sole responsibility.
