Lebanese tennis player Hady Habib lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles of the Olympic Games tennis tournament on Saturday.

Habib, ranked 275th in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, lost to his Spanish counterpart 6-3, 6-1. Although the score showed Alcaraz’s dominance, there was no doubt that Habib gave his all against the Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion.

In this David and Goliath match, the Lebanese player, whose name was chanted several times during the match, did an excellent job of defending some of Alcaraz’s shots.

In the first set, Habib managed to take 3 games from the Spaniard. The second set wasn’t as favorable to the Lebanese player, but fans could see that he wasn’t going down without a fight.

It’s also worth noting that Alcaraz was coming off a Wimbledon victory over Djokovic in straight sets. The Serb also had an easy match against Australian Matthew Ebden, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Despite the Lebanese defeat on Saturday, Habib will have the opportunity to represent Lebanon again on July 29 in the doubles category with Benjamin Hassan. Alcaraz, ranked 3rd in the world, will also take part in the doubles alongside his compatriot Rafael Nadal.

However, Lebanon still has hope in the men’s singles. Benjamin Hassan, whose match was cancelled on Saturday, will play American Chris Eubanks at a time yet to be announced.
