Security forces arrested on Tuesday, October 3, in Choueifat, a Palestinian who belongs to a gang involved in stealing old cars in Mount Lebanon. The individual, identified as A.S. and born in 1996, was driving a stolen Honda car.

During the arrest attempt, he tried to run over the police officers and managed to flee, even though an officer fired at the car’s tires.

Following investigations, the officers were able to subsequently arrest him. During the interrogation, he confessed to stealing seven old model cars, including Honda, Toyota, Datsun, Nissan and BMW. After indicating their hiding places, the stolen cars were recovered and returned to their owners.

Legal procedures have been taken against the detainee based on the competent judiciary’s order, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.

The Internal Security Forces are conducting daily monitoring to combat car theft operations in various regions of Lebanon, and as a result of intensive and continuous surveillance, the Office for Combating International Theft Crimes has recently noticed an increase in car theft operations, especially of older models of Honda, Toyota, Datsun and Hyundai within the Mount Lebanon Governorate.
