On Friday, the Ministry of Finance called on all taxpayers, whatever their legal status (individual, professional, corporate, entrepreneurial or associative), to regularize their situation with tax authorities as quickly as possible. According to a press release issued by the Ministry, in order to do so, taxpayers have to contact and complete the necessary formalities with the Income Tax Department in Beirut or with the regional financial directorates in the governorates. Taxpayers liable for the Value-Added Tax (VAT) can also file applications for registration with the VAT Directorate.

It should be noted that tax authorities have launched a nationwide investigation to re-establish tax compliance, as the COVID-19 pandemic, Lebanon’s difficult economic conditions and the civil servant strike may be among the reasons why some taxpayers have failed to meet their tax obligations.
