President Biden conveyed a message on Wednesday, October 26, to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, cautioning that if Tehran persisted in hostile actions against American forces in the Middle East, the United States would take action in response. The increasing drone strikes against American forces in Iraq and Syria have put the US administration under growing pressure since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Faced with groups backed by Tehran, any retaliation that is deemed too significant could potentially ignite the entire region.

President Biden stated on Wednesday that he had warned Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that if Tehran continued to “act against” American forces in the Middle East, the US would respond.

According to The Washington Post, President Joe Biden is facing mounting pressure to strike the proxies of Tehran, given their repeated attacks on American troops in Iraq and Syria since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Nevertheless, he carefully assesses any retaliatory measure, taking into consideration the risk of triggering a regional conflagration extending beyond the confines of Gaza, as reported by several sources close to the US administration.

As reported by the media, the Pentagon announced on Wednesday that 21 members of the US forces had sustained “minor injuries from drone attacks” in Iraq and Syria last week but had all returned to their posts.

The situation could significantly worsen, especially if American soldiers were directly killed in a drone strike.

According to the Pentagon, there is a real prospect of “escalation against U.S. forces in the region in the very near term, coming from proxy forces for Iran and ultimately from Iran itself.”
