Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq, hosting U.S. and international forces, was attacked by drones and rockets. Meanwhile, a U.S. Navy warship intercepted missiles near Yemen’s coast after a U.S. State Department security alert.

On Thursday evening, Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq, housing U.S. and international forces, was attacked by drones and rockets, causing explosions inside the base, according to two security sources cited by Reuters. Islamic resistance claimed the attack.

Simultaneously, a U.S. Navy warship in the Middle East intercepted several projectiles near the Yemeni coast, believed to be launched by Iranian-backed Houthi militants involved in the Yemen conflict, according to CNN. The missiles were possibly fired at Israel, the Pentagon said. Two to three missiles were successfully intercepted.

These incidents followed a U.S. State Department “worldwide caution security alert,” urging increased caution for U.S. citizens abroad due to rising tensions and the potential for violence in various global locations. The alert cited the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and violence against U.S. citizens and interests worldwide.

It was not clear if the attacks were carried out in response to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
