Opposition leader Yair Lapid accused the Israeli government Thursday of “unpardonable failure” for not preventing the brutal weekend attack by Hamas militants that killed more than 1,200 people in Israel.

Lapid reaffirmed that he will not take part in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz’s emergency government, stating that he does not believe it could work with its members and under its current structure.

“Saturday’s failure is unpardonable,” Lapid said in a televised address, adding that he would not join the government announced by Netanyahu and Gantz.

Lapid stated that it was “a structure that can’t work, it’ll just add to the mess”.

Lapid criticized his political opponents, and their slow government formation in a time of war, which should be swift and void of political bickering.
