Nine years after Daesh’s 2014 massacre, over 80 mass graves have been found. Some have been opened, like Kocho, a symbol of Daesh’s brutality. This led to the identification of bodies, including those of children who were separated from their mothers and killed. While survivors’ accounts and DNA help locate and identify remains, locals criticize government negligence and insufficient funding. About 2,700 Yazidis remain missing, and many mass graves remain unexcavated. Despite early liberation, residents question the delay as they demand justice and closure.
