Lebanese-born Bulgarian weightlifter Karlos Nasar won Olympic gold by breaking the world record in the -89 kg final with a total of 404 kg in Paris on Friday.

The 20-year-old athlete, born in Paris to a Lebanese father and Bulgarian mother, lifted 180 kg in the snatch and 224 kg in the clean and jerk, his first world record, for a total of 404 kg, another world record.

He finished ahead of Colombia’s Yeison Lopez (390 kg), who took silver, and Italy’s Antonio Pizzolato (384 kg), who took bronze.
