Table tennis player Mariana Sahakian was eliminated from the Olympic Games after losing 4-0 (11-7 / 11-6 / 11-4 / 11-6) to American Lily Zhang in the second round on Sunday evening. The Lebanese player was no match for Zhang, ranked 35th in the world and the top American in the ITTF rankings. Zhang dominated the match from start to finish.
Although the defeat was disappointing, Mariana Sahakian put in a solid performance at the start of the tournament.
Her start to the competition was marked by an impressive level of determination and play. Sahakian certainly remains an important figure in Lebanese table tennis.
