The Lebanese athletes achieved a remarkable feat, securing a total of five medals at the Arab Athletics Championships.

Lebanon distinguished itself at the 23rd Arab Athletics Championships for men and women held in Marrakech (Morocco). The Lebanese athletes taking part in this competition hit the ground running, winning five medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze) in the very first days of the competition.

These impressive results confirm the robust state of the national athletics in the country. This affirmation comes after Lebanon’s remarkable achievement at the West Asian Games held a few weeks ago in Qatar, where they clinched an astounding tally of 17 medals.

Aziza Sbeity in the spotlight

In Marrakech, Lebanon’s only gold medal was won by Aziza Sbeity in the 100m race. The Lebanese sprinter also won a silver medal in the 200m, narrowly missing out on the 100 and 200m double. Sbeity thus solidified her position as the leading Lebanese female athlete at the moment.

The second silver medal for Lebanon was won by the women’s 4x400m relay team comprising Nada el-Kurdi, Joan Makary, Rasha Badrani and Tala Fakhoury.

The bronze medals went to Rasha Badrani (400m hurdles) and Tala Fakhoury (800m).

The particular achievement of these Games was undoubtedly the outstanding performance of Lebanon’s women athletes, who secured all five of Lebanon’s medals.

Following the recent achievements of Lebanese athletes, the President of the Lebanese Athletics Federation, Roland Saadeh, expressed to the media his satisfaction and optimism regarding Lebanon’s position in the realm of athletics wihin the Arab region. Saadeh said in a media statement that the participation of Lebanese athletes in the Arab Championships and the forthcoming Francophone Games in Kinshasa reflected their preparedness for the next World Championships in Budapest in 2023 and the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
