The Lebanese Presidency issued the following statement on Wednesday:

Committed to upholding his constitutional oath and exercising his full authority to defend Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and supreme national interests, President General Joseph Aoun responded to efforts led by the United States, which chairs the “Military Technical Committee for Lebanon,” established under the November 27, 2024 Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities.

After being informed by the U.S. side that Israel had agreed to include a civilian member in its delegation, and following consultations with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, the President appointed former ambassador and lawyer Simon Karam to head the Lebanese delegation to the committee’s meetings.

The relevant authorities have been notified, and Ambassador Karam is participating in the commission’s work in this capacity.
