Caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi revealed that “the number of registered internally displaced people (IDP) is more than 70,100, distributed across 533 centers.”

In a press conference on Thursday, he declared that 13,500 Syrians returned to Syria, noting that this means that “Syrians are able to return to their country.”

“Our response is for Lebanese IDPs, but based on our humanity and patriotism, we stand by every human being in need,” he said, confirming the presence of Syrian-specific shelters in the Bekaa.

He also praised the work of governors and municipalities, emphasizing the importance of “activating all cells to ensure that things go well and efficiently.”

“The crisis cell at the Ministry of Interior is in constant contact with the governors to know the latest numbers, needs and everything that happens,” he continued.

Additionally, Mawlawi pointed out that his ministry is “in constant contact with the security services to resolve all issues.”

“Minor issues remained confined and limited, as they were dealt with in real time, thanks to the security services and governors,” he concluded.

Mawlawi also praised the “great” role played by the Lebanese Red Cross “in assistance and relief,” indicating that “only cohesion and legitimacy can save Lebanon.”

On the other hand, he announced that “the Ministry of Education is securing schools to be safe shelter centers.”
