French President Emmanuel Macron took a hard tone on Wednesday at the UN General Assembly, stressing that “there cannot and must not be a war in Lebanon.”

Calling for an end to Israeli “escalation” in Lebanon along with the rocket attacks by Hezbollah on Israel., he stressed: “a war in Lebanon must not be authorized.”

“We urge Israel to cease this escalation in Lebanon, and to Hezbollah to cease these missile launches to Israel. We urge all of those who provide (Hezbollah) with the means to do so to stop doing so,” he said.

The French President also revealed that the new French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, would be visiting Lebanon at the end of this week as part of efforts to prevent a war, calling on Israel and Hezbollah to cease hostilities immediately.
