The Higher Islamic Supreme Council reiterated on Saturday its “deep concern” about the ongoing presidential deadlock severely impacting Lebanon.

In a statement released after its meeting, chaired by the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, the Sunni body stressed that electing a president of the Republic is “vital for ending Lebanon’s prolonged crisis, which has lasted for over 700 days.”

They emphasized that this step is crucial for restoring stability and progress, aligning with the hopes of all Lebanese.

The Council also noted the “negative effects of the presidential vacuum on the regional role of the state, which has become paralyzed, and on the operation of its constitutional institutions.”

They warned that this situation “jeopardizes Lebanon’s national and Arab mission.”
