Bilal Abdallah, member of the Democratic Gathering bloc, announced that his party plans to “launch an initiative by touring various political parties to open channels of communication.” The goal is to resolve the presidential election deadlock and reach a unified solution.
In an interview with the Voice of All Lebanon on Friday, Abdallah noted that the recent visit by French President Emmanuel Macron’s envoy to Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, “failed to make any progress on the presidential election.” According to Abdallah, this failure is partly due to “the refusal to engage in dialogue, the lack of seriousness in approaching this issue,” and because the involved parties have set high demands.
“I fear that we will have to wait until after the presidential election in the United States (in November), and also until the end of the war in Gaza, before finding a solution to the Lebanese political problem,” he concluded.
Abdallah’s statement follows Le Drian’s comments during his visit to Beirut on May 28 and 29, where he warned that “political Lebanon” is at risk as long as the crisis persists, and a new head of state is not elected.
