Lebanese Forces (LF) chief Samir Geagea said on Saturday that the situation in southern Lebanon “could become threatening.”

During a solidarity meeting in Maarab entitled “1701 in Defense of Lebanon,” Geagea underscored that the country’s situation is “headed towards the worst,” emphasizing that the people “cannot remain spectators to what is happening.”

He attributed the blame to the Axis of Resistance for “trying to prevent any positive outcome for Lebanon.”

“Hezbollah justifies its presence as a defender of Lebanon, but we have seen the opposite in their destruction of the South. Its survival could endanger our southern border and our southern regions,” Geagea remarked.

He lamented that the pro-Iranian party had “no right to involve the Lebanese people in this war” in its support for Gaza, noting that the conflict in the South “has not benefited Gaza in any way and has only caused havoc for Lebanon.”

“The people of the South are paying the price for the presence of an Iranian military arm on Israel’s borders,” he emphasized.

The LF party chief also blamed the caretaker government for being “responsible for the situation in southern Lebanon.”

“All the data shows that if the Lebanese army is deployed in all the points where Hezbollah is present in southern Lebanon, the danger will be halted, so what is the government waiting for?” he questioned.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, he considered it “one of the most important issues in the region,” distinguishing support for the cause from exploitation. He expressed hope that “we will wake up one day and see the resistance occupying Tel Aviv, but this is not the reality.”

Concerning the illegal crossings on the Syrian border, Geagea noted, “We are living with an issue today in Lebanon: the presence of a state within the state that confiscates decision-making powers and facilitates smuggling through illegal crossings, such as the one [LF Coordinator in Jbeil] Pascal Sleiman’s murderers passed to go into Syria.”
