Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati assured on Monday that “contacts are being made with all local and international stakeholders to prevent Lebanon from being dragged into war.”

Following his visit to Dar al-Fatwa on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, where he held talks with the Mufti of the Republic, Abdellatif Deriane, the highest Sunni religious authority in Lebanon, Mikati declared that the conflict that broke out in southern Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israel in the aftermath of October 7 “is in no danger of degenerating.”

The head of the caretaker government also addressed the issue of the presidential election, expressing hope that “it can be held as soon as possible, as it is crucial for the recovery of institutions and the launch of reforms.”

He concluded, “The election of a president is a source of hope for a solution at the national level.”
