The Ministry of Energy and Water announced that it will be injecting more than $500,000 into the public treasury, thereby securing additional revenue via a tender to clean up sewers and riverbeds.

The Ministry organized a call for tenders on January 29, 2024, but the number of applicants was insufficient. After consultation with the Public Procurement Authority, it organized a second call for tenders on February 27, 2024.

The tender is for isolating and cleaning riverbeds and major sewers in anticipation of flooding or problems that might arise in the future, particularly in spring when the snow melts.

The worksites were divided into four main areas: Beirut Mount-Lebanon, North Lebanon and Akkar, South Lebanon and Nabatieh, and Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel.

The winning companies will start work within twenty days. Work will continue until the end of September.

Under the specifications, environmental considerations should be taken into account when implementing the project, so as not to deform the sewers or alter the natural course of the rivers, and not to deepen the excavation or remove embankments where they exist.

Tenders will be called periodically, providing a sustainable source of additional revenue for the public purse.

The Ministry calls on qualified companies wishing to participate in the tender to submit their bids as soon as possible.
