France has submitted a proposal to Lebanon outlining a path toward resolving the unabating violence in southern Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israel, centered around UN Resolution 1701, according to the Al-Markaziya news agency.

While Lebanon has yet to respond to the French document, informed sources revealed that extensive discussions are underway within the relevant departments of the Lebanese government to carefully analyze the proposal and draft a comprehensive response that underscores Lebanon’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.

In a related development, caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib met with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka and Major General Aroldo Lázaro, Head of Mission and Commander of the UN peacekeeping force in South Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Following the meetings, Bou Habib emphasized Lebanon’s commitment to pursuing “a political and diplomatic resolution” to the tensions in the southern region.

He stated, “Lebanon’s priority is to reach a political and diplomatic solution to the crisis in the South, one that would lead to sustainable stability through a full and balanced implementation of Resolution 1701.”

Finally, he called for “giving peace a chance and restoring rights to their owners because it is the best way to achieve the security and prosperity that the people of the region need.”
