In an interview with the television channel Al-Jadeed on Sunday, Lebanese Forces (LF) MP Georges Okais, when asked about the presidential election, said that “the opposition is sticking to its candidate (former minister Jihad Azour), while the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) remains relatively committed to his candidacy.”
“We have started to lose control of the situation in Lebanon. We are mortgaging the future of the Lebanese people, discussing options on which there is no consensus among parties,” he added.
For Okais, the solution to the presidential question “is to elect a president in line with the Constitution, not to call for dialogue to convince the (opposition) parties of the (Hezbollah-backed) Moumanaa candidate.” A dialogue he described as a “dialogue of the deaf.”
“If we use reason and question the Lebanese identity of the Shebaa Farms, we are treated as traitors,” he continued, insisting on his will to “liberate the rest of the territory,” in reference to the other disputed spots along the border with Israel.
Okais also hailed “the only positive thing at the moment,” namely the two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians, which is gaining ground among countries around the world.
