Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Bou Habib reiterated Lebanon’s readiness for a “full” and “balanced” implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, “as part of a comprehensive solution that would guarantee stability and lasting peace” on its southern border.

Following a meeting on Wednesday with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York, Bou Habib also affirmed Lebanon’s commitment “to the action of UNIFIL in southern Lebanon, in coordination with the Lebanese Army.” On the last day of his visit to New York, where he took part in a ministerial-level meeting of the UN Security Council, he assured, to his interlocutor, that “the Lebanese authorities are watching over the security of UNIFIL and safeguarding its mission.”

The Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs also stressed “the need to put an end to hostilities in Gaza,” insisting on “the two-state solution to put an end to the conflicts that have been recurring in the Middle East for over 75 years.”

Bou Habib was also received by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo.
