On the sixteenth commemoration of the martyrdom of Captain Wissam Eid and his assistant, Adjutant Osama Merheb, in a car bomb attack on January 25, 2008, political figures and leaders in Lebanon expressed salutes to these “fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of truth and justice.”

Samir Geagea, the head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, took to the “X” platform to acknowledge the occasion, stating succinctly that Eid died “because he found the evidence.” Geagea alludes to the motives behind Wissam Eid’s assassination, who had played a crucial role in the investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri on February 14, 2005, deciphering telephone data linked to the crime.

For its part, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri noted on the “X” platform, asserting: “16 years have passed since the assassination of captain Wissam Eid and adjutant Osama Merheb. We will not forget.”

MP Ashraf Rifi, in his tribute on the “X” platform, saluted the memory of a man who “sacrificed himself for truth and justice.”

Michel Moawad, the leader of the Independence Movement, conveyed his respect on the “X” platform and extended his tribute to “all martyrs who dedicated themselves to truth and justice.” “Justice will prevail,” he asserted.

MP Adib Abdel-Masih, in his message on the “X” platform, referred to Captain Wissam Eid as a “martyr of truth and justice” and acknowledged the enduring impact of Eid’s memory “as a weapon in the hands of those who advocate for freedom and justice.”

MP Fouad Makhzoumi emphasized on the “X” platform the contribution of Wissam Eid and Osama Merheb “to defending Lebanon, its security, and stability,” asserting that “their cause will remain present until justice is achieved.”
