The American program of financial support for the Lebanese army will reach its conclusion at the end of March. But according to reliable sources, Washington has no plans to suspend its assistance to the regular forces, particularly during this phase when the military institution is called upon to play a leading role in South Lebanon.

The same sources indicate that the role of the army and its command is highly appreciated both in Lebanon and abroad, which explains the willingness to provide it with the assistance it needs, particularly given the missions awaiting it in the event of a settlement in the south of the country.

Also according to these sources, an American official is expected in Lebanon to discuss all these issues with political and military leaders.

The United States began distributing financial assistance to Lebanese army soldiers and officers in June 2023, as part of a program that ended in November of the same year, but which Washington extended until March 2024.

The army support program was originally intended to last six months and cost $55.5 million. The sum of $100 is paid monthly to 70,000 eligible military personnel.
